Don’t want to be an employee? 4 youngsters spot business opportunities and redefine value of entrepreneurship

Two brothers, Zhou Kai and Zhou Han, turned their childhood love of DIY into a thriving business. While waiting for his O-level results nine years ago, Zhou Kai started Repairsg, a home appliance repair service, with his younger brother. The company, which offers plumbing, air-conditioning repair, and pest control, has since served more than 20,000 customers and achieved S$1.7 million in revenue in 2024. By the time Zhou Kai was about to graduate from SP’s School of Business, the brothers’ monthly income already matched that of many fresh university graduates. Convinced that this was the industry he wanted to commit to, Zhou Kai decided not to pursue further studies and instead focus on growing the business full-time. Although Zhou Kai did not pursue further studies, he has always actively sought different ways to improve himself and strengthen his skills. He returned to SP to take a preparatory course for licensed electricians and completed a plumbing installation and repair course at the BCA Academy, with the aim of becoming a licensed electrician and plumber as soon as possible. His younger brother, Zhou Han, who graduated from TP’s School of Business, also chose to follow in his brother’s footsteps by not going on to university and similarly gained the understanding and support of their parents. Zhou Han pointed out that young people choosing entrepreneurship is not about taking shortcuts. Precisely because they are young, many assume they lack technical experience, and they also face challenges managing older employees.
