In conjunction with International Day of Older Persons on 1 October, St. Luke’s ElderCare launched a new cookbook titled Connecting Generations in August. The book features 25 recipes from more than 20 seniors at their centres and includes interviews conducted by tertiary students, who explored the stories behind these dishes. SMU student Lim En Yan, who interviewed senior citizen Huang Yali, shared that talking to these seniors gave him a deeper understanding of local culture and history, and made him appreciate the time spent with the elderly in his own family. Lim said, "The biggest takeaway from this project was realising how eager these elderly individuals were to share their recipes and stories. They might just be hoping for someone to talk to, especially as their children and grandchildren grow up and they long for more family companionship." In addition to Lim, students from ITE College Central and SP also participated in this series of interviews.
