In 2018, former design and technology educator Ms Ong began her reskilling journey by enrolling in two consecutive specialist diplomas—one in business and big data analytics, and the other in advanced networking—driven by her interest in Industry 4.0 technologies such as IoT, AI, and big data. With her new skills, she secured a role as a project engineer at a local polytechnic’s engineering school, where the lecturers’ work inspired her in electronics and robotics. After her contract ended, she applied for a job that required Python and Robot Operating System but was not successful. Undeterred, she continued to upskill. In 2022, Ms Ong enrolled in the part-time Diploma in Engineering (Control and Automation) at SP, which offers over 500 continuing education and training (CET) courses in high-demand fields such as AI, advanced manufacturing, data analytics, and engineering, empowering professionals like her to transform and shape their careers.
