Inspired by years of helping his grandmother and mother care for plants, 19-year-old Muhammad Sufi Emmy Effandy developed a passion for greenery that led him to pursue a Diploma in Landscape Architecture at SP. His interest in the outdoors and sustainability further strengthened his decision to enter the field. Sufi was part of the SP team that won the Consolation Award in the Hardscape category at the Singapore Garden Festival Landscape Design Challenge. Their project, Reminisce, was inspired by childhood memories and featured the iconic Dragon Playground in Toa Payoh as its centrepiece, highlighting the role of landscapes in preserving memories and fostering community. Despite challenges in coordinating training and sourcing materials, the experience strengthened his teamwork and communication skills. He hopes to contribute to Singapore's City in Nature vision through sustainable landscape designs that connect people with nature and heritage.
