The Government has launched a new Graduate Industry Traineeship Programme, which will open for applications in October with 800 initial slots, and may expand depending on demand. The programme is open to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents graduating in 2024 or 2025 from universities, polytechnics, ITE, private universities, or other educational institutions such as overseas universities. Those who graduated earlier but completed National Service in 2024 or 2025 are also eligible. Compared with the Mid-Career Traineeship Programme, the training allowance and traineeship period for graduates are lower and shorter. The Mid-Career Traineeship offers allowances ranging from $1,800 to $3,800, while measures have been introduced to ensure that employers do not retrench existing positions or similar jobs to take advantage of the traineeship scheme. Whereas, SP’s School of Business’ Senior Lecturer, M. Thiyagarajan said during interview with Vasantham that graduates should grab all the opportunities they gained from any programme to help them interact with industry experts to broaden their chance in work skills and outshine individually. He also said competitiveness will help to apply what they have learned into work skills.
