Singaporeans are increasingly seeking out meaningful, skilled labour, amid a growing push for better recognition and pay for such professions. Mohamad Rezza Abdul Malek recounts the highs and lows of his eight-year career as a SMRT train captain. He completed a diploma in Engineering (Rapid Transit Technology) at SP in 2023. Now a depot controller, Mr Rezza manages other drivers’ schedules and train routes but adds that he does miss being in the captain’s seat.
