Young entrepreneurs are redefining entrepreneurship by building businesses around personal interests, creativity, and social impact, rather than focusing solely on profit. One example is Jovi Lim, an SP graduate who founded sustainable lighting brand Sonogo in 2024 at the age of 19. Starting as a bedroom hobby, he used plant-based materials and has since sold more than 1,000 lighting products. A lifelong enthusiast of architecture and interior design, Lim began by sharing 3D building models on Instagram before teaching himself product design, Fusion 360 and 3D printing through YouTube. While studying at SP, he realised many designer lamps were too expensive for students and young consumers, inspiring him to create affordable yet stylish alternatives. After months of refining prototypes, Sonogo grew from a passion project into a successful local brand.
