At the three-day Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH), over 300 startups from around the world showcased their work across various fields, including biomedicine, artificial intelligence, and sustainable solutions. Among them, students and alumni from SP displayed and shared over 20 innovative projects. Ernest Soh, recent graduate from SP's Media, Arts & Design School, teamed up with two classmates to create a mobile app called "RunAl," designed to motivate people to maintain a regular exercise routine through running. The app develops personalised training plans based on the data of users, such as height and weight. Ernest noted that "sometimes we get bored running alone, so the app also uses artificial intelligence to create a group of virtual runners, so users can feel accompanied when exercising alone through images and voice guidance”. To further motivate runners, users can complete running challenges to earn points that can be exchanged for costumes for their in-app avatar. Another group of students designed a board game called “Digi-Up!” to help seniors improve their digital skills. Charlotte, Sruti and two other classmates co-developed this game based on the familiar “snakes and ladders” so that seniors can also learn about investment and financial fraud schemes and how to spot fake content generated by AI. Sruti added, “when we were trying out with the elderly at the Community Club, an elderly man in his 70s told us that he had been defrauded of $200,000 in an investment scam, which made us very sad. It also makes us more determined that what we do is very meaningful.”
