Programming marathon entrepreneurship competition to encourage the public to come up with new business ideas for River Hongbao 2025

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Singapore's independence (SG60) and to usher in the Year of the Snake, River Hongbao 2025 at Gardens by the Bay will feature innovative products that emerged as solutions to social challenges. These solutions were developed by young innovators who triumphed at the Mapletree-SCCCI River Hongbao Hackathon (RHBHacks) 2025. Themed “Celebrating SG60: Innovating for Social Good”, this year’s hackathon brought together young innovators to tackle pressing social challenges. Participants were tasked to showcase the nation’s journey of resilience and unity while addressing pressing social challenges through innovation to build a brighter and more inclusive future. Two SP teams emerged in the top four finalists for the hackathon. Students from the team Memory Mates presented a dementia board game designed to stimulate cognitive engagement, foster social interaction, and strengthen caregiver-patient bonds. Combining therapeutic memory exercises with eco-friendly materials, the game addresses Singapore’s aging population. The other team, RTE Technologies, designed innovative modular systems designed to bring greenery back to urban spaces, combining advanced technology and aesthetic design to make sustainable plant care accessible for modern urban living. Algy, another team from SP, won the Most Innovative Award for a vertical microalgae farm transforming unused wall spaces into sustainable systems for carbon-neutral biofuel production, sewage water treatment, and air pollution reduction. Teams from NP and RP also won awards in the event.
