Ready to Heat Meals: How Often Should We Eat Them?

Carolyn Stephen, Lead Nutritionist at SP’s Food Innovation & Resource Centre (FIRC) noted that too much saturated fats found in ready-to-heat meals is linked to bad cholesterol in the blood. She added that the sodium content in these meals is very close to the daily recommended amount, and it is very likely that someone who consumes them multiple times daily is likely to go over this. In the long run, this can increase the risk of hypertension and risk of heart disease. Other meals that were featured lacked nutritional value. She recommends adding a vegetable dish to these meals to improve on the dietary fibre, making it a well-balanced meal.
