SP’s 2026 open house featured about 60 student-run businesses and innovation projects that showcased and demonstrated how SP students are using partnerships, technology and creative thinking to address social and environmental challenges. One highlighted initiative, called REVAMP, was developed by SP students who are turning worn-out denim, a major source of textile waste, into durable make-up pouches. The project works closely with Mustard Tree, a social enterprise that trains and employs individuals with special needs, allowing the students to create sustainable products while generating inclusive job opportunities. Another project presented at the open house uses VR technology to make traditional stroke rehabilitation more motivating and interactive. In this project, SP students designed VR “therapy games” that focus on improving balance, coordination and cognitive skills for seniors, and are working with Lions Befrienders to introduce these VR experiences at active ageing centres. Yet another innovation involves a smart solar ecosystem that combines solar panels with rooftop greenery and automated systems to help boost efficiency and resilience in Singapore’s tropical climate — a design being tested on real rooftops and floating solar farms.
