SMU has partnered with the five polytechnics to allow graduates with work experience to receive more course credit exemptions upon enrolment and to create a clearer academic progression pathway for ITE graduates, including access to postgraduate programmes. At the inaugural SMU Academy Day held on 21 October, the university’s professional training arm, representatives from the five polytechnics and ITE signed an MOU to formalise the collaboration. Students enrolling from August next year will benefit from the new arrangements. The five participating polytechnics are NYP, NP, RP, SP, and TP. According to SMU’s media release, the agreement aims to accelerate the learning process. Graduates holding advanced or specialist diplomas from the polytechnics will be eligible for up to six course credit exemptions when enrolling in SMU’s Industry Graduate Diploma (IGD) and Industry Practice Master of Digital Economy (IPMDE) programmes. Those with at least 10 years of work experience will be entitled to one or two additional credit exemptions. Similar news reported in Lianhe Zaobao, 8 World, Berita Harian, SMU Newsroom, and Oli968.
