A 21-year-old SP student, Nurul Fadhilah Kamal, is pushing back against fast fashion by upcycling old clothes into handmade items like bags, choosing creativity and sustainability over constant consumption. Inspired by helping her grandmother repair worn items, she began sewing and repurposing fabrics, highlighting a more mindful approach to fashion amid rising textile waste, of which Singapore discarded 206,000 tonnes in 2024 with only 3% recycled. Her story, produced in partnership with RP, as part of a media practicum, reflects a broader movement among youths to challenge fast-fashion culture by embracing upcycling and sustainable practices, showing how individual actions can contribute to reducing waste and promoting more responsible consumption.
