Students turned fruit peel into environmentally friendly detergent

A group of SP students including Common Business Programme student, Lee Jia Hwee and Diploma in Business Administration student, Joey Chan Rou Yu, have turned kitchen waste into an eco-friendly cleaning product by developing a homemade cleaner made from orange peels and white vinegar. Free from harmful chemicals, the product is meant to promote safer, greener household cleaning while encouraging people to cut down on disposable wet wipes and adopt reusable cloths instead. The students showcased and sold their product, Peelergent, at sustainability-focused events such as booths at The Green Collective in Funan Mall and the Sengkang Sustainable Market, where face-to-face engagement helped them explain its environmental benefits and gather feedback. Supported by the BETA programme, the project gave the students hands-on experience in entrepreneurship while reinforcing their belief that sustainability should be embedded in everyday habits, a message they hope will continue to resonate beyond the programme’s end.
