The 'honesty' of Berlin triggers inspiration to refresh Joo Chiat

SP Diploma in Interior Design graduand Ms Quraisyah Azmi, was inspired by the youth design culture in Berlin and applied this concept to develop her project, TAPAK Union. The project, which creates the illusion of a hostel building in Joo Chiat, aims to fill the “void” in the area. She collected data by speaking to backpackers in Joo Chiat, Arab Street, and Bugis, and found that many of them appreciate cultural arts and social interaction. Explaining why the city of Berlin was her inspiration, she shared, “The design in Berlin is very contemporary and filled with ‘honesty’.” Ms Quraisyah will be pursuing her bachelor’s degree in architecture at NUS.
