SP Diploma in Business Administration student Shakti Kumaran Selvakumaran turned a school entrepreneurship project into a thriving business called Micro Munch, which sells grow-it-yourself microgreens kits. The kits, available in three varieties—Microli (broccoli), Microot (beetroot), and Munchy Red (red radish)—are priced at $6.90 each and sold on the Micro Munch website. Microgreens, known for being organic, pesticide-free, and highly nutritious (three to four times more than regular vegetables), can be harvested in seven days and are easy to grow indoors with minimal watering. Each kit produces enough microgreens for three to four meals for one person. Mr Kumaran's friend, Terence Tam Jia Wei, a Diploma in Landscape Design & Horticulture student at NP, contributed to growing the microgreens, while other team members focused on marketing and sales. The team also conducted cooking sessions to test how the microgreens enhanced the flavour and texture of dishes like salads and sandwiches. The first kits were sold in September at a school event for $10 each, but feedback from lecturers led to product improvements, including reducing the kit size, enhancing instructional videos, and lowering the price to $6.90.
