Turning trust into income and waste into opportunity through renting

SnapRent is a smart, AI-driven rental platform founded by SP Diploma in Information Technology students Ebenezer Tay and Leng Zong Shun that allows people to rent items for short-term use, from cameras and tripods to camping gear and kitchen appliances, without worrying about scams, hidden fees, or confusing rules. The idea originated from the founders’ own experiences, realising that buying high-end or rarely used items was often unnecessary, and that many unused items at home could instead be shared. The platform benefits both sides: lenders can earn money from unused items, while renters save costs and reduce waste, contributing to environmental sustainability. SnapRent operates as a web app where users can list items or browse rentals, with AI-assisted pricing, transparent listings, and a secure deposit system. Insurance options are also being explored to further protect items. Currently, SnapRent’s most active users are polytechnic students, particularly for digital cameras, which are in high demand. The founders plan to expand inventory, add more features, and grow beyond cameras into other categories like luggage and camping gear, aiming to create a centralised, trusted rental ecosystem in Singapore.
