University of the Arts Singapore marks first batch of graduates

The University of the Arts Singapore (UAS) is marking the graduation of its pioneer cohort of 135 students, the first batch from Singapore’s first arts university, which was formed through an alliance between LASALLE College of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). Its programmes combine artistic disciplines with areas such as sustainability, healthcare, and social impact, including music therapy, biophilic design and design for social futures. UAS is also expanding its offerings with programmes in music business, performance, cultural analytics, and artificial intelligence. Among the graduates is Tiew Fang Kee, 25, who graduated from SP in 2021 with a Diploma in Media, Arts & Design. After working in graphic design and marketing, she enrolled in UAS’ BA (Honours) Design for Social Futures programme to pursue work with greater social impact. Her final-year research involved spending nine months with senior communities, and she now hopes to work in the social or environmental sector, using design to address issues such as sustainability and an ageing population.
