Singapore Polytechnic Celebrates 65th Graduation, Highlights More than 5,000 Graduates Recognised for Future-Ready Skills and Community Impact

SINGAPORE, 7 May 2025—Singapore Polytechnic (SP) will confer diplomas, advanced diplomas and specialist diplomas to over 5,000 graduands at its 65th Graduation Ceremony from 2 May to 8 May 2025. The ceremony marks the expansion of SP’s extensive alumni network, the largest among polytechnics, now exceeding 240,000 members.

Senior Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth and Trade and Industry, Ms Low Yen Ling*, is the guest-of-honour at today’s graduation ceremony.

This year’s graduation is noteworthy as SP celebrates the first cohort of graduates from its inaugural batch of Minor programme graduates, designed to equip students with future-focused skills. Approximately 163 students, including 2 here today, are among the first to complete their Minors in Asia Readiness, 5G & Artificial Intelligence of Things, Business Management, Data & Artificial Intelligence, Entrepreneurship, and Sustainability.

As the SP graduation ceremony marks the successful completion of their studies, we recognise the nine outstanding Institutional Medallists who have exemplified extraordinary resilience, discipline, and unwavering hard work in reaching this impressive milestone. Among them are:

● Donavan Tan Jia Jie [Diploma in Biomedical Science (DBS)], driven by an intellectual curiosity to understand the multifaceted roles of a medical doctor, reached out to over 300 doctors across various public healthcare institutions for job-shadowing opportunities. A dedicated community leader, this Lee Kuan Yew Award recipient is a Grassroots Leader who contributes to a People’s Association initiative by supporting and helping caregivers and persons with disabilities within his community.

● Riley Kang [Diploma in Engineering with Business (DEB)], who has undertaken multiple volunteering roles, including serving as a befriender to patients at National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Dialysis Centres and elderly residents at the Potong Pasir Community Centre. A Youth Guidance Associate with The Astronaut’s Collective, Riley mentors and guides youths, especially those from challenging backgrounds, by helping them explore career pathways through mentorship programmes and career exposure events. The Lee Kuan Yew Award recipient firmly believes that community service should know no bounds, encompassing everyone needing support.

At SP, we are deeply committed to empowering individuals with a lifelong learning mindset, equipping them for a future-ready workforce. Individuals seeking to develop in-demand skills for managing big data can now enrol in SP’s Professional & Adult Continuing Education (PACE) Academy’s new Specialist Diploma in Data Science (Data Engineering). The programme focuses on the practical knowledge needed to create and sustain data pipelines, opening up exciting career opportunities in data engineering.

We celebrate the achievements of our adult learners, like Abdul Rauf Bin Mohamed Raffi, who will graduate with a Specialist Diploma in Maritime Superintendency. Rauf grew up in a low-income household and lived in a rental flat for most of his life. Growing up in such an environment gave him a purpose: to achieve something better for his family and himself. Juggling work and school was particularly challenging, and even though it was a demanding time, it taught him resilience and the importance of self-discipline and time management.

For Donavan, Riley, Rauf, and all our graduands, the graduation ceremony is a significant milestone that marks the culmination of all their hard work and determination as they complete their polytechnic education. These graduands exemplify SP’s commitment to fostering academic excellence, a strong sense of social responsibility, and community engagement. We are confident that with the knowledge and skills they have picked up during their time at SP, they will continue to succeed as they embark on the next phase of their educational or professional journey.

SP is proud to celebrate the achievements of all its graduands and looks forward to their future contributions to society and SP’s alumni network.
