Developed and validated with 15 industry partners, the starter kit supports architecture, engineering, and construction firms in redesigning around 30 core roles ahead of CORENET X compliance deadlines
SINGAPORE, 2 September 2026: Singapore Polytechnic (SP), together with the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), the Skills & Workforce Development Agency (SWDA) and the Singapore Contractors Association Limited (SCAL), today launched the Job Redesign (JR) CORENET X Starter Kit at BEX Asia 2026, held at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre. The launch took place at the SP Pavilion, Booth B-G13, during a walkabout by Guest-of-Honour Mr Chee Hong Tat, Minister for National Development.
The starter kit helps Built Environment (BE) companies prepare their workforce for CORENET X, Singapore's national digital submission platform for building projects. As the sector progresses towards wider adoption of CORENET X, firms can take the opportunity to redesign job roles, enhance workflows, and build future-ready capabilities to improve their project delivery.
Developed through a job redesign consultancy project with 15 BE companies, the starter kit draws on industry insights from architectural firms, engineering consultancies, and contractors (see Annex A for the full list of participating firms).
Through this project, SP ran a workforce transformation programme for each participating company, covering job redesign, skills mapping, learning and development planning, and on-the-job training (OJT) blueprints across key roles including project managers, BIM managers, BIM coordinators, architects, engineers, developers, and contractors.
In collaboration with SCAL, SP also developed training pathways aligned with SWDA’s Career Conversion Programme for Built Environment Professionals (CCP-BEP) to support workforce reskilling into the redesigned roles.
A practical starter kit for the sector
The starter kit brings together the CORENET X Job Redesign Guidebook and the STEP (Spot the Gap, Tweak the Roles, Educate and Perform) Tool, a web-based application that guides companies through the job redesign process. Together, the two components help organisations build future-ready job roles and responsibilities, map the skills each one requires, and develop learning plans and OJT blueprints to close capability gaps.
The STEP tool's AI assistant maps competencies, identifies skill gaps, and flags opportunities to integrate AI and automation into redesigned work processes, helping companies streamline their CORENET X submission workflows and strengthen coordination among architects, engineers, BIM managers, developers, and contractors. It also points users to relevant SP training programmes, BCA CORENET X resources, mentorship support and available funding schemes.
The starter kit is intended for architectural firms, engineering consultancies, developers, contractors and other organisations using the CORENET X platform. Its primary users are expected to include HR and learning and development professionals, business leaders, project directors and managers, and BIM managers and coordinators.
Dr Faris Akbar Hajamaideen, Senior Director, Built Environment & Maritime (BEM) Cluster and Director, School of Architecture & the Built Environment (ABE), Singapore Polytechnic, said, "The objective of CORENET X is to transform the Built Environment sector by enhancing collaboration and agility. This shift fundamentally needs to go beyond adopting a new system. It means rethinking how teams are structured, what skills people need, and how professionals like BIM managers, architects, developers, and contractors work together. By partnering directly with 15 companies to redesign these roles from scratch, we have built a starter kit that reflects what firms are actually facing, not just what regulations require on paper. Our hope is that this gives companies, especially smaller ones without large HR teams, a practical starting point they can use with confidence."
New industry partnerships and sustainability commitments
At the same event, SP formalised new Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with EM Services, ACWise and Nemetschek Group, covering areas such as green building techniques, energy-efficient HVAC optimisation and digital transformation in the Built Environment sector (see Annex B for the full list of partnerships formalised at Bex Asia 2026).
SP also carried its sustainability commitments to its own exhibition presence. Half of the structure used for the SP booth at BEX Asia 2026 was reused from Singapore Maritime Week 2026, held in April, and will be repurposed again for SWITCH 2026 come October 2026.
