In the second edition of student landscape design competition organized by Ang Mo Kio Town Council (AMKTC), two designs were selected to be implemented. Two designs that were created by four Diploma in Landscape Architecture (DLA) third year students were mentored by Senior Lecturer, Idris Bidin.
Winning teams were presented certificates of Achievement and tokens by Senior Minister, Lee Hsien Loong at a ceremony held in conjunction with the AMKTC’s Annual Tree Planting Day on 2 Nov 2025.

When asked about their thoughts and experience:
“Through the competition, I realized that good design isn’t about being fancy but about serving and benefiting the community. Throughout the design process, we interviewed and communicated with residents to understand their needs, which helped us shift our design perspective, not just from a designer’s point of view, but also from the users’ and residents’. We are excited to see our design come to life when it’s built on site!”
– DLA Year3 student, Sew Yu Jun
“We are truly honoured and grateful to be part of this design competition. As students, having the opportunity to engage with a real site and develop solutions that address community needs is an exceptionally valuable learning experience. We sincerely look forward to the prospects of our work contributing positively to the community.”
– DLA Year3 student, Lim Rong Chen

“The competition with AMKTC was a meaningful experience because this design is more than visual, it is about creating spaces that truly serve the community. Working with my teammate was especially rewarding as we explored creative yet practical solutions for our design.”
- DLA Year3 student, Silver Sim
“This experience has been eye opening; it made me realize how crucial landscape architecture is towards our environment and how the discipline connects with the community. I'm grateful to have this opportunity, representing SP in shaping our community! I want to thank AMK Town Council for opening doors and making the arrangements for us to be exposed to the landscape industry even more!!”
- DLA Year3 student, Aadila Chai
Silver and Aadila were delighted to share their winning design at the AMKTC event.
“It gave my group the opportunity to experience a process that felt closer to the landscape architecture profession when we presented to AMKTC, our ‘client’. It was truly worthwhile to see the different design interpretations of AMKTC’s needs and requirements and to learn from one another during the presentation day.”
- DLA Year3 student, Farzana Binti Hirman
“It was fun and a good learning experience. It is great to see classroom ideas become places people will use.”
- DLA Year3 student, Zay Lynnz Htet
