On 18 June 2026, 41 students from the Diplomas in Applied Chemistry (DAPC) and Perfumery and Cosmetic Science (DPCS) embarked on an enriching overseas study trip to Skinlab Biochem Resources Sdn Bhd in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
The visit offered students a valuable behind-the-scenes look at the cosmetic industry, particularly the workings of an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). Through an introductory session, students were introduced to diverse career roles—including formulation, quality assurance and control, marketing, and technical sales—as well as key industry standards such as GMP, Halal certification, ISO 9001, and ESG practices.
A highlight of the trip was a hands-on formulation session, where students created their own moisturising cream using ingredients like sodium hyaluronate, glycerin, and niacinamide under the guidance of cosmetic scientists. They also explored their creativity by designing customised colours.
The experience allowed students to connect classroom knowledge with real-world applications, while gaining insights into potential career pathways.
