5 Diploma in Perfumery & Cosmetic Science (DPCS) Year 3 students embarked on a business trip to Givaudan Melaka on 27 March 2026 as part of Singapore Polytechnic’s Overseas Internship Attachment Programme (OIAP), complementing their ongoing 44‑week internship at Givaudan Singapore.
This was arranged through the collaboration of both Singapore and Melaka teams. The visit offered valuable exposure beyond their usual small‑scale lab work, allowing the interns to appreciate large‑scale raw material manufacturing and gain a clearer understanding of the workflow from upstream trials to downstream production. Although Givaudan Melaka focuses on flavourings while the interns work on fragrances, the students observed shared operational principles such as proper GHS labelling, wastewater treatment practices and precise raw‑material handling.
After the plant visit, the students and their lecturer also enjoyed a brief heritage tour along Jonker Street, which provided a meaningful real‑world connection to how Givaudan’s flavourings support the broader consumer market, as many food products sold in the area incorporate ingredients produced by the company—bringing their learning full circle from factory to marketplace.

The tour was very insightful, we got the opportunity to visit the production factory for powder based food products and waste management areas and the staff provided detailed explanations of each stage of the process in detail and gave us a comprehensive understanding of their operations.

The tour was insightful as I gained a better understanding of the how the Taste & Wellbeing division operates at a larger scale, especially in terms of production processes and workflow.
