DCPE Team Clinches 1st Runner-Up at National AI Student Challenge

Students from the Diploma in Computer Engineering (DCPE) at Singapore Polytechnic School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering achieved an impressive milestone by emerging as 1st Runner-Up in the National AI Student Challenge.

The Grand Finals were held from 22 to 23 May 2026 at Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre, where student teams presented their innovative AI solutions before a distinguished judging panel comprising:

  • Benjamin Tee, Vice President (Ecosystem Building), NUS Enterprise
  • Denise Ang, Chief Strategy Officer and Director of AI Central, HTX
  • Ee Shan Sim, Head of AI Lab, Workato
  • Nikhil Dwarakanath, Group Head of Data & Analytics, Grab

Representing SP EEE, Team techmonkeys developed Autolot Assistant, a real-time HDB carpark availability platform that covers approximately 99% of Singapore’s 2,000+ HDB carparks. The system leverages live data from data.gov.sg, refreshed every five minutes, to provide users with up-to-date parking availability information together with driving and walking route guidance.

Beyond improving convenience for motorists, the project was designed with sustainability in mind. By helping drivers locate available parking lots more efficiently, the solution aims to reduce unnecessary driving and contribute towards lowering transport-related carbon emissions in Singapore.

The team received their award from Nikhil Dwarakanath during the prize presentation ceremony.

The DCPE Year 3 students behind the project were:

  • Jonathan Lim Wei Kang
  • Goh Jing Ying Miko
  • Liang Yong Ann Julian
  • Dai Siyuan

This achievement reflects the students’ strong technical capabilities, innovation mindset, and commitment to developing AI-powered solutions that create meaningful real-world impact.
