On 24 November at the Singapore Interior Design Awards (SIDA) Gala Dinner 2025, SP was one of three Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) to partner with the Society of Interior Designers, Singapore (SIDS to raise the professional standards of Singapore’s interior design industry. Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Finance, and Second Minister for National Development witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The collaboration reaffirms SP’s ongoing commitment to upskilling practitioners and supporting lifelong learning in the built environment sector. Earlier this year, SP worked with SIDS to launch the pilot short course entitled Essential Skills for Interior Designers, which saw an enthusiastic participation from 22 experienced practitioners. The course provided training in areas such as Contract Administration, Project Management, and Statutory Requirements, validating the industry’s strong demand for structured continuing education.
Building on this momentum, SP will co-develop and deliver two new Continuing Education and Training (CET) courses: 1) Wellness & Health for Interiors and 2) Detailing for Interiors. Set to launch in April 2026, these courses will equip practitioners with in-demand skills to design spaces that prioritise design excellence, occupant well-being and safety.
Mr Tung Ching Yew, President of SIDS, noted that the partnership underscores the sector’s inclusive growth, ensuring both experienced and emerging designers benefit from new professional pathways. As part of a broader initiative involving NYP and TP, this collaboration will align curriculum development with industry needs, preparing a future-ready design workforce capable of integrating technology, health principles, and sustainability into practice.
Through this partnership, SP continues its mission to advance professional education and strengthen Singapore’s design ecosystem—empowering designers to shape safe, healthy, and inspiring environments for all.
