The Singapore Polytechnic School of Architecture and the Built Environment (ABE) is proud to showcase the innovative work of our latest Diploma in Interior Design graduands. Featured recently in Berita Harian, these three projects—selected from 182 exhibited works at our recent year-end showcase—demonstrate how our students are moving beyond aesthetics to tackle environmental crises, mental well-being, and urban heritage.
Ms. Syuhrah Huwaida Yamanhizas turned a critical eye toward the global environmental crisis with her project, Sands of Times. While sand scarcity is a frequently overlooked issue, Syuhrah’s research into its impact on our ecosystems transformed her design perspective.
The Vision: An eye-opening exploration of resource depletion.
The Goal: To use interior design as a medium for public awareness, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable material sourcing in the industry.
Driven by a desire to alleviate the academic burden on primary school students, Ms. Syazmira Samsaimond spent eight months developing Kapsool. This project was the result of extensive field research at a primary school in Tampines and a collaborative effort with the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the SP User Experience Centre (UXC).
The Vision: A learning space equipped with modular, stress-relieving features.
The Goal: To foster independent learning and prioritize student well-being through "calm-centric" architecture.
Inspired by a study of the contemporary design culture in Berlin, Ms. Quraisyah Azmi sought to bridge the social gaps in Singapore’s heritage districts. Her project, TAPAK Union, reimagines a hostel space in Joo Chiat designed specifically for the modern backpacker.
The Vision: A design rooted in "honesty" and social interaction, informed by direct interviews with travelers in Bugis and Arab Street.
The Goal: To revitalize local spaces by integrating youth culture and cultural arts.
Whether it is Syuhrah’s focus on environmental advocacy, Syazmira’s dedication to educational reform, or Quraisyah’s upcoming journey into Architecture at NUS, these graduates embody the spirit of SP ABE. They are not just designing rooms; they are designing a better world.
Congratulations to our graduates on their successful showcase!
