HER STORY
What does it take to turn curiosity into a meaningful career? For Ms Teo Jin Xuan Huetta, it began with a simple interest in how aircraft worked and grew into a journey that took her across the world in the aerospace industry. Her story is not just about success, but about courage, perseverance, and the belief that anyone can achieve more than they imagine.
Huetta’s journey started just like many other students - with questions. She wondered how planes could stay in the sky and what powered these engineering marvels. Instead of ignoring those questions, she chose to pursue them. At Singapore Polytechnic (SP), she enrolled in the Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering in 2017, where she built a strong foundation in understanding aircraft systems. It was not always easy, but each lesson deepened her interest and brought her closer to her dream.
RISING TO THE CHALLENGE
During her polytechnic studies, Huetta took a bold step by joining an internship at the Rolls-Royce@NTU Corporate Lab. There, she was given the opportunity to work on a highly advanced project involving electrical power systems, drives, and control theory. The depth of the theory was beyond what she had studied before. Faced with unfamiliar challenges, she could have felt overwhelmed, but instead, she was determined to learn. She worked alongside experienced engineers, picked up new skills, and contributed to real engineering solutions. Through determination and hard work, she completed her internship with a Distinction, proving that stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to incredible growth.
| Stepping out of my comfort zone and independently pitching myself to companies led to this incredible opportunity to be in an advanced R&D environment. My time at Rolls-Royce@NTU Corporate Lab was a masterclass in intellectual humility and resilience. Collaborating with the research team taught me to embrace complex ambiguity early in my journey. |
Her journey continued at the University of Birmingham, where she pursued a degree in Aerospace Engineering. During this time, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted normal life and posed many challenges for students worldwide. Despite the uncertainty, Huetta stayed focused and adapted to new ways of learning. Her resilience carried her through, and she successfully graduated in 2022.
GOING GLOBAL WITH ROLLS-ROYCE
Today, Huetta is living out the dream she once imagined for herself. She began her career with Rolls-Royce Singapore as a Manufacturing Engineer and continues her journey with Rolls-Royce internationally in China as an Overhaul Business Engineer, overseeing Beijing Aero Engine Services Company Limited (BAESL). From classrooms in Singapore to global aerospace operations, her journey shows how far passion and determination can take you. She is now helping keep aircraft flying safely around the world.

Her story reminds us that you do not need to have everything figured out to begin. You simply need curiosity, the willingness to learn, and the courage to try. Engineering is about solving real-world problems, creating innovative solutions, and shaping the future. If you are someone who likes to ask “how” and “why,” then engineering might just be the path for you.
| Don’t wait for the perfect opportunity. Create it. Engineering is more than equations, technical executions and a stagnant future. Today, it is where different disciplines collide, fuelled by raw curiosity. Embrace the ambiguity and take the first steps into navigating the unknown. |
