Two teams from School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) clinched Gold and Bronze Prizes at the 21st International Standards Olympiad, held in South Korea from 12 to 14 August 2026.
Organised by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) and the Korean Standards Association (KSA), the international competition promotes awareness of how standards contribute to safety, convenience and technological advancement.
In the High School category, participants were challenged to develop standards for “Wearable electronic devices and technologies – Performance test methods for smart eyeglasses” within eight hours, without internet access. Competing against 17 teams from nine countries, both SP teams—endorsed by Enterprise Singapore—demonstrated outstanding teamwork, technical understanding, and problem-solving skills across their written submissions and oral presentations.
Gold Prize – Team Durian Titans
Bronze Prize – Team Merlion Mavericks
The teams were guided by EEE staff members Goh Say Seng, Than Keng Hwa and Elaine Soo, whose dedicated mentorship helped prepare the students for this international challenge.
Beyond the medals, the experience strengthened students’ understanding of how engineering standards drive innovation, safety, and quality worldwide, while providing meaningful real-world learning that enriches the EEE curriculum. Congratulations to both teams on their stellar achievements and for proudly representing Singapore Polytechnic on the global stage!
