Year 2 Diploma in Applied AI & Analytics (DAAA) student Chen Weijie Reuben and his team emerged champions at the Chua Thian Poh Pinnacle Grand Finale, organised by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and supported by the Chua Thian Poh Entrepreneurship Education Fund.
Competing under the theme “AI for Good and Smart Cities”, the team impressed judges with BuilderLab, an AI-powered platform that streamlines hardware development by helping users design physical products and connect with manufacturers. Their solution aims to make hardware prototyping more accessible, especially for aspiring innovators with limited technical expertise or resources.
As the only startup team from a polytechnic in the competition, Reuben and his teammates navigated challenges ranging from technical development and business planning to coordinating supplier networks across China and the region. Their perseverance and determination ultimately paid off with a winning pitch.
Reflecting on the experience, Reuben shared, “Always give it a try, even when you think you'll fail, and trust your own abilities as much as you trust everyone else's.”
The prize presentation was graced by Guest of Honour Ms Low Yen Ling. The finalist teams will receive continued mentorship and support from NTU throughout their post-competition journey as they continue to refine their ideas and explore their potential impact.
The team received pre-seed funding and industry mentorship through SP’s SPiNOFF Entrepreneurship Centre, and showcased BuilderLab at Echelon Singapore 2026 and SWITCH 2026.
