Turning classroom learning into real-world impact, five students from the Diploma in Information Technology, now known as the Diploma in Computer Science (DCS), have won the Lee Hsien Loong Interactive Digital Media Smart Nation Award 2026.
Their winning project, Automating Land Administration and Tracking (ATLAS), was developed in collaboration with the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) through the Project Industry Now Curriculum. ATLAS automates the tracking of changes in building and spatial data, reducing manual effort in map updates and improving workflow efficiency.
The project took the students beyond the curriculum as they tackled unfamiliar geospatial concepts, worked across multiple areas of system development, and collaborated closely with SLA to translate real-world requirements and feedback into technical improvements.
Even after ATLAS exceeded SLA’s expectations, the team continued refining its interface and processing speed.
The students also showcased ATLAS at AI Singapore’s AI for Good event, demonstrating how industry collaboration, applied learning and continuous improvement can empower students to develop technology solutions with real-world impact.
