Alumnus, Diploma in Marine Engineering

2024 DMR Gold Medalist

When I finished my N-levels, I wasn't sure what path to take, but I knew one thing: Singapore's ports play a key role in the country's foundation, and the maritime industry is always in demand. That's why I chose SP's Diploma in Marine Engineering (DMR) – the course offers a broad exposure to various engineering disciplines.

The most exciting part of my experience has been the practical sessions. Combining theory with hands-on activities, like dismantling marine components and welding, really brought the learning to life. My internship at PSA Marine also provided valuable insights into the industry's future, especially in sustainability and decarbonization.

To anyone considering SP or DMR, I’d say, “The future depends on what we do today.” This course builds a strong foundation, opening doors to a versatile career in engineering. As for my future, I’m aiming to pursue further studies in renewable energy or explore work-study programs to deepen my industry knowledge.

Alumnus of Diploma in Marine Engineering

2022 DMR Gold Medalist

My journey at SP began with a deep passion for the marine engineering industry, making SP my only choice for furthering my education. I was drawn to the diploma program because it offered hands-on practical lessons using real engines, allowing us to grasp the complexities of marine systems. One of my most memorable experiences was participating in an overseas community service project in Bintan, where I learned to build sanitary systems for villagers and empowered women in the community. This eye-opening experience enhanced my technical skills and broadened my understanding of life in third-world countries.

In my course, Mr. Lim Choo Heang, my Marine Power Plant lecturer, inspired me with his engaging teaching style and real-world insights. SP has truly transformed me into a more outgoing person, enriching both my education and social skills. As I look forward to joining the Navy and pursuing Mechanical Engineering at NTU, I carry with me the lessons learned and the desire to continue growing both personally and professionally.
