Berita Harian, 10 March 2026 - During a briefing session at SP about the Work-Learn Scheme (WLS) offered by the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), Mr Ammar Abdul Jabar realised that the scheme could be a stepping stone for his career in the cybersecurity sector. The scheme allows Full-time National Servicemen (NSFs) to gain practical experience in units under the Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS) while using the skills learned during their studies at polytechnics. The Diploma in Infocomm Security Management (now known as the Diploma in Cybersecurity & Digital Forensics) alumnus, now 21 years old and holding the rank of Third Sergeant (3SG), said the scheme is very relevant to his field of study. He told Berita Harian, "Not only can I continue to use skills such as digital forensics that I learned in school, but I can also develop those skills based on what I learned through work experience." Currently, he is undergoing NS as a Cyber Specialist in the Cyber Incident Response Team, which is mobilised to assess and investigate cyber incidents, identify the root cause of an issue and implement remedial measures to ensure that similar incidents do not recur.
