Collegial Artificial Intelligence Innovation Competition (CAIIC) 2020 Opening Ceremony

October 26, 2020

On 7 October 2020, Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and Transwarp Pte Ltd proudly launched the inaugural Singapore edition of the Collegial Artificial Intelligence Innovation Competition (CAIIC) 2020. Supported by the Ministry of Education (MOE), AI Singapore, and National Supercomputing Centre (NSCC), the 7-week competition is the first of its kind in Singapore.

This year’s theme, Power, hopes to empower participants to identify AI solutions to develop preventive maintenance measures for power supply grid equipment. The virtual opening ceremony saw the participation of over 200 guests, and 40 registered teams spread across junior colleges, Institutes of Technical Education (ITE), polytechnics, universities, and the public. The winners of the competition stand to win up to $10,000 worth of prizes and will go on to represent Singapore in the online China finals happening this November. During the course of the competition, teams will be mentored and trained by AI engineers from Transwarp as well as SP’s Data Science and Analytics Centre (DSAC) to use Transwarp’s enterprise AI Platform, Sophon, to carry out AI modelling and design solutions.

The opening ceremony also witnessed the signing of a two year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SP and NSCC which will grant SP staff and students access to NSCC’s high-performance computing (HPC) resources to support AI programmes and local enterprises in their digital transformation journey. The partnership will also enable SP to develop relevant AI training courses and curricula for its pre-employment training as well as Continuing Education and Training (CET) courses.
