[OPEN] Achieving Success through Innovative Side Stream Valorisation – URC 2024

December 28, 2023

Who could have imagined that fish skins, once considered a low-value by-product, could be turned into a coveted snack, becoming a must-buy souvenir in Singapore - the addictive salted egg fish skins snack?

Can this success be replicated for other types of side streams, such as spent grains, edible pulps, fruits, and vegetables?

We're calling out to Food Manufacturers with ample side streams or direct access to by-products that could be upcycled into higher value-added products. Join us in the upcoming THE UPCYCLE REVIVAL CHALLENGE 2024 (URC 2024), an event co-organized by the Food Innovation & Resource Centre (FIRC), the Singapore Food Manufacturers' Association (SFMA), and Enterprise Singapore.

This challenge is designed to help companies catalyse innovation in side stream upcycling, emphasizing side stream valorisation and reintegrating upcycled foods back into the system. The initiative aims not only to enhance potential commercialisation rates but also includes elements of strategic branding and marketing plans, with assistance from students across various disciplines, such as food science and business faculties. They will collaborate to brainstorm, design, and promote innovative upcycled food prototypes aligned with sustainability objectives.

We're entering an exciting era with the increasing focus on sustainability within our local ecosystem. Together, let's collaboratively shape a better tomorrow for the food industry and future generations!

For Food Manufacturers seeking to repurpose side streams into interesting and value-added food products, we invite you to express your interest in URC2024. Kindly register your interest by clicking here or scan the QR code as shown. Limited vacancies are available.
