Li Hongji was among seven recipients of this year's Boys' Brigade President's Award, the organisation's highest honour recognising members who have completed at least six years of rigorous training while demonstrating outstanding leadership, character, and community service. The awards were presented by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at the 22nd presentation ceremony. The SP Diploma in Marine Engineering student said joining the Boys' Brigade gave him valuable leadership experiences beyond the classroom. Despite the disappointment of not being selected as his company's Company Sergeant Major, mentorship from his officers helped him build resilience and grow as a leader. Another recipient, Gu Tianlong, an NYP Diploma in Nursing student and student leader of the 36th Singapore Company, said participating in the Boys' Brigade Share-a-Gift initiative transformed his perspective on community service. Seeing the appreciation of beneficiary families inspired him to return as a volunteer after graduation to mentor younger members and support future outreach efforts.
