Sixty-two-year-old Mr Chin Wing Soon shared an inspiring lifelong learning journey during an interview about returning to SP more than 40 years after first studying there in 1985. Recently graduated with a Specialist Diploma in Science (Artificial Intelligence), he described the achievement as “a dream come true” and proof that people are never too old to learn. Wing Soon expressed gratitude to SP Lecturers Dr Peter Leong, Dr Soh Wee Nam, Ms Evelyn Yeo and Mr Aldrian Obaja for patiently guiding students through hands-on AI learning. Reflecting on his return to campus, he said that although technology and learning methods have changed significantly since 1985, the spirit of practical, hands-on learning at SP remains the same. He noted that modern education now relies heavily on online learning tools, presentations, and self-directed study. Before studying AI, Wing Soon worked in architecture and mechanical systems design, contributing to major Singapore projects such as Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa. He said he felt proud knowing he helped build parts of Singapore’s skyline, even if much of the work remained hidden behind walls and machinery.
