A breath of fresh air at the police band's 100th anniversary performance

Station Inspector (SI) Muhammad Rasul Md Razali, 33, fulfilled a childhood aspiration by leading the Singapore Police Force (SPF) Band at its centenary Police Day Observance Ceremony. Inspired by a drum major in his school band nearly 17 years ago, Rasul now commands the SPF Band, Singapore's oldest uniformed band, calling it a "significant milestone" and hoping to continue its rich legacy. His journey began at 16 when he learned about the SPF Band during an NCO band major course, where he met the band's then-concertmaster, who became his mentor. This mentorship encouraged him to pursue SP’s Diploma in Music and Audio Technology. After being assigned to the SPF for National Service in 2013, his mentor prompted him to audition, and he joined as a trumpet player. A year into NS, he decided to become a full-time SPF Band musician. He steadily rose through the ranks, attending the Singapore Armed Forces Drum Major Course and getting certified in 2022, culminating in his current leadership role. The event was also attended by the Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs, Mr Edwin Tong, and around 200 participants from various SPF units. Similar news reported in AsiaOne.
