To commemorate Singapore’s 60th National Day, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong joined Members of Parliament and students to plant 60 trees at a Tree Planting Day jointly organised this year by the Ang Mo Kio Town Council and the Jalan Kayu Town Council. This event also marked the achievement of their goal to plant 10,000 trees in 2025. In addition, the Ang Mo Kio Town Council collaborated with SP this year to organise a design competition, inviting students to propose new uses for two open spaces located under HDB blocks in Ang Mo Kio and Hougang. When developing their ideas, students were asked to consider the needs and habits of nearby residents and incorporate environmentally sustainable elements. For two consecutive years, the Ang Mo Kio Town Council has achieved its target of planting 10,000 trees annually. This year’s planting of the Tembusu tree by Senior Minister Lee commemorates SG60.
