SP Diploma in Media, Arts & Design (Creative Community Engagement with Psychology) graduate Sophia Lai, 19, created a graduation project titled “Mind The Gap” to raise awareness about autism spectrum disorder and encourage greater empathy towards individuals with autism in public spaces. Inspired by her younger brother with autism, she set up a three-day exhibition at Tampines Bus Interchange featuring interactive displays, informational boards and brochures to help commuters better understand behaviours linked to sensory overload and emotional distress. The exhibition received positive responses from individuals with autism and parents, with some saying it made them feel seen, understood and supported by society. During the 66th graduation ceremony at SP, more than 5,500 graduates received diplomas and specialist diplomas. SP also presented the SkillsFuture Lifelong Learning Award to 64-year-old anaesthetist Dr Seah Teck Ghee. Despite having more than 30 years of clinical experience, he enrolled in a Specialist Diploma in Cosmetic Science after his daughter casually mentioned that her cosmetics brand needed someone with research expertise.
