From Little Red Dot to Silicon Valley: S’pore start-up founded by poly grads makes it to Y Combinator

Collar AI, a Singapore startup founded by SP alumna Jamie Yau and NP alumnus Kazel Koh, has been accepted into Y Combinator (YC), one of Silicon Valley’s most prestigious startup accelerators. Selected from around 1% of applicants, the startup secured US$500,000 in seed funding, mentorship and access to a global investor network. The founders initially built AI technology for defence procurement before pivoting to finance after identifying stronger market demand. Collar AI now develops AI tools that help investment firms source deals, conduct due diligence, prepare investment memos, build financial models and create institutional knowledge. Yau and Koh hope their journey will inspire more young entrepreneurs by showing that success is possible through the polytechnic pathway, highlighting the value of perseverance, technical expertise and a willingness to learn.
