Kenneth Chiang, 30, a self-described NDP “diehard fan” who has watched almost every parade on site since 2009, dreams of becoming its creative director. A brief encounter in 2011 with veteran stage designer Randy Chan, who has created five NDP stages since 2004, inspired Chiang to pursue architecture so he could design the NDP stage one day. By the time he enrolled in SP to study Architecture in 2012, Chiang had already built about 10 stage models — including NDP replicas, other performance stages, and his own designs — even 3D-printing a Padang model. Chan remembers the 10-minute meeting fondly and encouraged Chiang to keep chasing his dream.
