More Singapore homeowners are using generative AI tools to plan renovations for cost savings and flexibility, but industry professionals caution that AI may lack feasibility and finesse. Mr Fann Zhi Jie, first vice-president of the Society of Interior Designers Singapore and Deputy Director of SP’s Department of Communications, emphasised that designers should maintain their edge through creativity, critical thinking, and deep knowledge. He said: “The true value of an interior designer lies in professional expertise that AI cannot replicate.” Mr Fann also highlighted the importance of designing for comfort, wellness, sustainability, safety, and feasibility, such as choosing formaldehyde-free adhesives or environmentally friendly paints.
