Job outcomes for polytechnic graduates in 2025 ‘comparable’ to past years: Gan Siow Huang

Employment outcomes for the 2025 graduating cohort of Singapore’s polytechnics remain “comparable” to previous years, with employment rates and job vacancies still high, said Minister of State for Foreign Affairs & Trade and Industry Ms Gan Siow Huang on 22 October at SP’s Career and Further Education Fair. While some firms are slowing hiring amid economic uncertainty, Ms Gan emphasised ongoing efforts to connect graduates with jobs and training opportunities. The 2024 Graduate Employment Survey showed that 54.6% of polytechnic graduates secured full-time permanent jobs, with the median gross monthly salary rising to $2,900 (up from $2,800 in 2023). Held on 22–23 October at SP, the fair featured over 500 job, internship, and training opportunities from 57 organisations including Mediacorp, Singtel, SMRT, UOB, and the SAF, and drew about 3,000 participants from among students, alumni, and employers. A key new initiative, the Graduate Industry Traineeships (GRIT) programme, launched in October 2025, offers up to 800 traineeships lasting three to six months in growth sectors. SP is among the participating institutions, offering nine positions as of mid-October and has also established a new Employment Support Office to assist graduates. Among recent graduates is Cherilynn Chua, 20, a food science and technology graduate from SP, who chose to take a gap year to explore new directions before pursuing university studies. SP’s Registrar Mr Wong Jian Chang mentioned that SP has set up a new Employment Support Office to facilitate job matching for graduates and partnered with NYC to launch a Work Ready 101 programme to provide students with quick and structured industry mentoring.
