Singapore sound card maker Creative Technology has appointed Mr Sim Li Ern, nephew of its late founder Mr Sim Wong Hoo, as its new chief executive officer. In a bourse filing on 5 January, the company said its board had approved the nominating committee’s recommendation for Li Ern to take over the role. Li Ern was previously Creative’s vice-president for sales and marketing, and has held several regional sales leadership roles across Asia, India, and the subcontinent over the past decade. He is an alumnus of SP, where he obtained a Diploma in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, before earning a first-class honours degree in electronic engineering from the University of Sheffield. In addition to his CEO role, Li Ern is an administrator and beneficiary of Sim Wong Hoo’s estate, with a deemed interest of about 22.4 million shares held by the estate. His appointment follows the announcement in November that Dr Tan Jok Tin would step down as executive chairman and interim CEO. Creative was founded in 1981 by Mr Sim Wong Hoo, who led the company until his death in January 2023.
