Michael Wee: Why Singapore’s PATEC chose Taiwan over SGX

PATEC Group founder Dr Michael Wee Liang Kiang shared that the Singapore precision engineering company chose to list on the Taiwan Stock Exchange instead of the Singapore Exchange (SGX) because Taiwan had a stronger manufacturing investor base and more comparable listed companies, making it easier for a manufacturing firm like PATEC to attract investors and raise capital. Since its 2015 listing, PATEC's share price has risen more than threefold. Dr Wee, who was among Singapore's first cohort of technical-stream students, studied Mechanical Engineering at SP before building PATEC into a global precision engineering company. He credited hard work, lifelong learning and seizing unexpected opportunities for the company's success. Recent growth has been driven by the AI boom, which revived demand for hard disk drive components following PATEC's acquisition of Broadway Industrial, while the company has also expanded into robotics, automotive components and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
