Students from SP developed an AI-powered Telegram chatbot called Elfie to improve access to special educational needs (SEN) support information for students. The project was inspired by SP Diploma in Human Resource Management with Psychology alumnus Matthew Lim, who has Coats disease and faced difficulties finding information on grants, financial aid and exam accommodations while studying at SP. Together with 10 teammates, including fellow SP alumnus Elijah Yuen, the team created Elfie to centralise SEN resources that are usually scattered across school, organisation and government websites. The chatbot was showcased at the South West Community Inno Lab Symposium, where over 100 students from nine higher education institutions presented community-focused AI projects. Students from NP also developed an AI-powered rodent detection and trapping system designed to identify rats and spray them with delayed-effect poison while avoiding harm to other animals.
