Singapore Rail Academy to partner 5 educational institutions to help rail workers gain formal qualifications

The Singapore Rail Academy will partner with ITE, NYP, RP, SP and SIT to create clearer education and career pathways for rail workers and students. The partnership will make it easier for industry training and certifications to count towards formal diplomas and degrees, so workers pursuing further qualifications do not have to start from scratch. From November, the Academy will also bring training by LTA, SMRT, and SBS Transit under a common curriculum, with standardised training and transferable skills across operators. Its scope will expand beyond engineers to include technicians and operations staff, with new professional certification pathways and, from early 2027, sector-wide WSQ certifications. The initiative aims to strengthen Singapore’s rail workforce as the network expands, existing lines undergo major upgrades, and technology becomes increasingly important. The five education institutions will also explore work-study programmes, allowing rail workers to gain qualifications while obtaining practical industry experience.
