The woman helping to shape Singapore’s infrastructure

An NTU alumni story highlights Er Jee Yi Yng, a Geotechnical and Tunnelling Engineering Specialist who has played a key role in shaping Singapore’s infrastructure. Now Managing Director of AECOM Singapore and Senior Vice President for Southeast Asia, she has contributed to major projects including the Thomson–East Coast MRT Line, Tuas Terminal Phase 2 and the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System Link. Originally from Malaysia, Yi Yng moved to Singapore at 17 to study at SP, before receiving a scholarship to pursue civil engineering at NTU. Her work includes pioneering engineering solutions, such as safely modifying building foundations during MRT tunnel construction, demonstrating how engineers help develop transport networks and urban infrastructure. Recognised for both her technical expertise and leadership, she received NTU’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Outstanding Alumni Award in 2025, and continues to advocate for innovation and sustainability in infrastructure development.
