Former SP student, Ms Aqilah Alwi, 30, was once considered a weak EM3 student. However, she was accepted into Pioneer Secondary School and kept trying, even though society’s negative perception of EM3 students often haunted her. According to Ms Aqilah, her mother was her motivation and often gave her moral support. After her ‘N’ level examinations, she continued her studies in Secondary 5. However, her results limited her opportunities to go to polytechnics. She eventually chose to continue her studies at ITE and graduated with a Civil and Structural Engineering Design certificate with a full Grade Point Average of 4.0 and was awarded an iBuildSG scholarship. This success led her to pursue SP’s Diploma in Architecture. Ms Aqilah worked for four years in the construction sector before pursuing a degree. She was accepted into the second year of the Bachelor of Arts in Architecture at NUS during the COVID-19 pandemic. Armed with a passion for self-improvement, Ms Aqilah obtained a Master of Arts in Urban Design from NUS.
