Course Objective

Participants will learn the fundamentals of IoT (Internet of Things), including:

• How some common sensors work?
• How to interface sensors to a microcontroller?
• How to connect the microcontroller to the internet?
• How internet can be used to monitor or control devices at home or elsewhere.

Lessons will be delivered through a combination of lectures and hands-on practical, allowing participants to build a simple IoT project during the course.

• Certificate of Attendance (electronic Certificate will be issued)
A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to participants who meet at least 75% attendance rate

This workshop is designed for participants who wants to understand and build a simple IoT system that is able to perform remote monitoring of device.

Course Trainer(s)

Mr Chong Siew Ping

Mr Chong Siew Ping is a senior lecturer with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Singapore Polytechnic. He has been involved in curriculum development and R&D work for over 25 years. His areas of expertise include microcontroller applications, project implementation using FPGAs and CPLD’s, logic design and PCB design.

He has a wide scope of experience in using various technologies required in IoT applications such as Collection (of sensor data), Communication (via wireless means such as Bluetooth, WIFI, ZigBee, GSM/GPRS, Sigfox, Lora), Connection (through network), Cloud computing (such as Thingspeak, Mediatek Sandbox), Comprehension (analytics using tools such as MATLAB) and Creation (of value for end-users, e.g. development of mobile app for Android platform).
